About Us

The Fenny Fund was inspired by Fenway's battle with leptosporosis. She hadn't been acting like her typical rambunctious self - no barking, no eating, no demanding treats - so it was obvious something was wrong. In a frenzy, we brought her to the emergency vet only to be told things weren't looking good and it was going to treat her since they didn’t know what they were treating.

Fenway spent a week in critical care with the good folks at the Long Island Veterinary Specialists and we tried to keep composure as they explained there were no guarantees that she'd make it and signed a “do not recusitate” order if she happened to go into arrest during the night.  The wonderful vet reminded us not to lose hope, and that when we visited Fenway was like a new dog. (One vet tech even remarked that Fenway looked more homesick then sick when we visited). We saw her every night for the short amount of time she was allowed to be away from her IV and are certain those visits helped in her recovery.

Finally, the news came that she had lepto and would be treated aggressively.

After paying over $7,000 in bills we were given back a healthy dog, which is all any dog owner would care about at that time but the reality of finances crept in - on top of rent and utilities and subway cards.

Then, we thought, there must be other New Yorkers who've faced this dilemma: dog (aka best friend in the whole world) versus financial responsibility (you're an adult now, time to act like one). We were lucky enough to have some help affording care for Fenway, but we couldn't help but think, "How many other people were looking for a place to turn and found themselves dizzy and empty handed?"

That thought marked the conception of The Fenny Fund.

Are you a Fenny Fund candidate?

With the risk of sounding like a late night lawyer ad: has you're dog been injured or been infected? Has he been diagnosed with a disease that requires surgery or expensive treatment? We want to help you.

Been there? Wanna help others who are walking in your old shoes?

The Fenny fund is accepting donations to help NYC dog owners help with costly medical bills.

For those of you who have been lucky enough to avoid these pitfalls, think of The Fenny Fund as a lay away program. You never know if the next dog that needs help will be yours.
